Nestled cosily in the majestic Marlborough Sounds is the charming town of Picton. Picton is well known for being the gateway to the South Island due to it being the port of call for the Inter Island ferries, but it is also well known for its spectacular scenery. Huge Rimu trees, punga ferns and pretty pohutukawa grace the shoreline of three great sounds: Queen Charlotte, Keneperu and Pelorus. Visitors can appreciate these natural beauties through walkways, from the air, or from the sea on kayaks and boats. Picton also has great restaurants, arts and crafts and such things as restored boats from last century.
One thing that people love about Picton is the friendliness of the people. It’s the centre of attraction, but like most things ‘kiwi’, it’s friendly and understated.
